Using Modern Area Rugs To Dress Up A Room

Everyone has experienced that moment when they think they have gotten done decorating a room but when they stand in the room, they immediately know something isn't quite right. It could be that you love the colors, the furniture and the little knick knacks that you’ve carefully arranged; however, for some reason the place simply does not feel like it is properly meshed. More often than not, the thing the room is lacking is amodern area rug. Not only is a modern area rug sometimes just the thing the room needs to blend the decor, area rugscan sometimes be the thing that makes the room feel cozy and welcoming.

With each year different designs and color combinations are being used. Another thing that has started to change is the size of area rugs.

When they hear the term area rug, many people automatically think about the small rugs that are approximately the size of a welcome mat. While there is still a wide selection of rugs that are small, one of the most popular sizes today is the 9'X12' area rug. The reason that this size rug has become so popular is because it is the perfect size for something called furniture grouping. This is a style of decorating that has become increasingly popular in family rooms. Not only does having all of the major pieces of furniture arranged on the  9'X12' area rug make the room seem bigger, it is also a cozy setting that invites intimate conversations with friends and family members.

Another really cool thing that many modern area rug designers have started to do is use different shades of the same color in the same rug. For example a pink area rug might have shades of dusky pink, rose pink, bubble gum pink, and dark pink all swirled together. This type of area rug is an excellent way to add some texture to a room. Many people feel that these swirling color rugs make a room feel cozy.

Bamboo area rugs are steadily increasing in popularity. These area rugs are made out of genuine bamboo, though not the type that the Great Pandas eat. The bamboo used for bamboo rugs is harvested in the Anji Mountains. Not only is this bamboo not panda food, it also regrows very quickly. The extreme cold of the Anji Mountains winters hardens the bamboo, which makes the bamboo area rugs extremely durable. The great thing about having a bamboo area rug is that in addition to being the excellent addition to an oriental themed interior design scheme, they also look great in a ultra-modern design.

Sometimes the only thing needed to spice up a room is a bit of a shock. One of the best way to make a boring room interesting is by either tossing an unusually shaped area rug on the floor or hanging it on the wall instead of tapestries. One contemporary design that is visually dressing up rooms all over the world is the flower shaped area rug, which can also be a conversation starter.
