Gorgeous Kitchen Design

Home is where the heart is, so the saying goes. Arguably the heart of the home is its kitchen.  This is where we prepare our meals, gather to talk, pass through to grab a snack on our way to meetings, sports activities, or entertainments.  The kitchen is central to our homes due to its functionality and the fact that, let’s face it, it is where the food is.

A kitchen does not just have to be all about the food.  The design of a kitchen is important, both for functionality and also for its aesthetic value.  Equal importance should be placed on the ease of use for spacing of appliances and for the needs of storage or counter space, and the visual appeal of all the kitchen features together.  Wile designing a kitchen can be a fun, exciting thing, it can also be stressful envisioning a room that will only later come to life.

For those of us who are in a kitchen already but want to do something with the cabinets, walls, countertops, and floors that will make it a bit more than just a food preparation room there are plenty of decorating options to choose from.

Gone are the days when hanging a couple of prints or knick knacks on the wall would encompass all the decorating ideas for a kitchen’s space. Kitchen walls are an excellent place to begin. If you will be leaving your cabinets the color they are, it is important to make sure that the wall color is complimentary. If you are set on a wall color that clashes with your cabinets, but do not want to replace them, you can refinish or paint the cabinets. Wall color can have a huge impact on the appearance of your kitchen. If you wish to use a bold or dark color but are concerned about it over taking the room, consider an accent wall or wainscoting below to allow a splash of that color without allowing it to take over the room.

Flooring can have a major impact on a kitchen. If you do not like the idea of reflooring your space, there are plenty of other options that allow for a change. Adding a brightly colored flokati area rug can help bring a visual difference to your floor. Adding one or two rugs particularly in high usage areas can help to break up the monotony of a floor pattern. A rug in front of the sink or stove can also give relief to a sore back.

New appliances, countertops, cabinet hardware, and light fixtures can all bring change to your kitchen. Even making smaller changes can have a big impact on creating a space that reflects your decorating preferences.

For a kitchen that is not going to be completely remodeled, the simple changes can still give you that ‘new kitchen’ feel. Wall color and rugs can make a huge difference and personalize a kitchen so that it becomes truly, the heart of your home and more than just a place to grab a bite to eat.
