Decorating a 20-Something Bedroom

Once you have graduated from college, it’s often time to get your first apartment or home of your own. Gone are the days of hanging fraternity posters above your bed or taping your sorority letters to your bedroom door. You’ve grown up and, as you’ve grown, so has your taste in style, especially when it comes to your bedroom. While most males will choose to decorate their bedrooms in a simple style, females are known for their desire to decorate a space that will fit their perfect needs while encompassing their chosen style.
Even on a small budget, there are a few things you can do to a bedroom to make them all your own yet trendy at the same time. Consider framing six to nine of your favorite photos in black and white shots. Arrange silver frames holding the pictures on your bedroom wall in either a horizontal, vertical or combination style. If you wish to carry on the classic black and white photo theme throughout the room, look for paintings or canvas pictures that depict scenes or hobbies you are interested in. A popular way of achieving this is to hang pictures of places you have visited or would like to visit sometime in the future. If you are into the European scene, hand canvas prints of the Eiffel Tower or a canal scene from Venice. Not only will these pictures look classy in any woman’s bedroom, but they’ll also serve to provide a great topic for daydreaming, too!
Choose bed linens that will complement the color and design style you have selected for your bedroom. If you have used the idea of framing black and white pictures throughout the room, consider bringing color into the room by adding colorful bed linens to your bed. If you’d rather stay with a monochromatic linen theme but still want color in the room, switch things up a bit and use rugs to your advantage! Add a modern area rug in a design that complements your style and be amazed at the extra pop it can give any bedroom.
Keep in mind that you are only young once, so be sure to bring some of your youthfulness into the room, too! Do you love fashion jewelry? Why not display some of your favorite pieces on a free standing jewelry display instead of hiding it all away? Do you enjoy collecting perfumes? Keep the empty bottles and use them as display pieces on your dresser! Add in a couple of colorful lamps and be sure to select window treatments that you love, too.
Combine all of these accessories with furniture that is solid and will last for awhile, especially if you plan to keep the furniture for five or more years. Before you know it, you will have designed a bedroom that any 20-something would love to have!
